Market is on boom and almost every company has opened its door for new positions and everyone is looking for change to grab new positions with new challenges. So make sure that you have prepared the answers for the below questions before your interview. The questions are generic and will make very good impression on interviewer if you answer them in organised and structured manner. The depicted IGP interview questions are for CCNA and CCNP engineers.

11. What is the different type of route summarization available in OSPF?
12. What is the requirement of doing summarization?

14. If any of the OSPF area is not stabilized, does it impact another area?
15. What is the use of forwarding address in LSA 5 and LSA 7?
16. External routes are available in OSPF database but not installing in routing table?
17. If loopback is not configured, what will be the router-id selected by OSPF process?
18. Can we run multiple OSPF process in single router and what is the advantage of using it?
19. What are timers of OSPF?
20. Multicast address of used by OSPF.
21. OSPF works on which layer?
22. What is backbone area in OSPF?
23. Can we use OSPF without backbone area?
24. Is it required that OSPF router-id must reachable in IGP cloud?
25. After configuring new router-id, automatically it will be used or do we need to use some type of command to get it operational.
26. Why the secondary ip address of interface is not advertising in IGP cloud?
27. OSPF neighbourship is not coming up. Please tell the various steps to troubleshoot it.
28. One side MTU is 1500 and another side MTU is 1600. Does it affect neighbourship?
29. Provide process of DR and BDR election.
30. If DR is down and no BDR is configured what will happen?
31. What is the difference between a neighbor and adjacent neighbor?
32. My OSPF neighbourship is showing 2-way, what does it mean?

my god man, if i walked into an interview and your english was as terrible as it is in the above post, i would not even bother taking the test. i realize that you may be a briliant engineer, but communications skills are essential as well.

Thanks for the post, eventhough I have been working in networking for few years(consisting of ospf platform), dont come across some of the questions you have posted here. But from interviewer point of view, he would like to test once knowledge in depth and this will help people like me to be prepared.

The anonymous who posted about comm skills, you remind me of my workplace dude, there are always people like you who tend to feel good by discouraging others. Let me tell you its NOT going to help! Change of attitude is the right advise for you.

I thank the author for putting in a lot of efforts to come up with these series of questions!

hello there,
I have been myself a blog reader, but i don't write one. Found this website through the link provided in a blog on forwarding address, and this blog is good.
But, see i know every answer to all the questions here in IGP, but I've got no experience, therefore still involuntarily leisured.
Though, good stuff.

Hey, thanks for the questions...i think it will help...hm...somebody to be prepared, but...
You should know, most of them are totally not for CCNA level :)
I'm currently preparing for my CCNA with CCNA official courseware, and cert.guides, and ine.com videos, and documentation as well...The questions about BGP, OSPF LSA types, external routes, as well as multi-area OSPF related questions, and stuff like "One side MTU is 1500 and another side MTU is 1600. Does it affect neighbourship?" (even if i know the answer for this one:)) are not covered in CCNA at all!
So, the best solution, imho, will be to divide these into the separate "..for CCNA..." and "...for CCNP...".
Just because somebody could become scared about this, like "Oh my gosh, really, i must know all that stuff?! But my CCNA exam is scheduled on the next week...i'm so dead..." :)

A very good post and thanks for the efforts put.

Now to the gentleman who got agitated by english gaffes and was trying emphasize the eloquence of communication, shouldn't the first letter be uppercase while starting the sentence; and is there any word as "i" in english lexicon? I envisage god was intended good and that was victim of typing error??

So while giving one driving instructions, we need to be sure not to hit accelerator instead of breaks! Just a meek opinion I felt important exuding here and yes; communication plays a pivotal role but so does the politeness over public forums!!

Thanks,
